The 2020 Census continues to move forward, although changes and adaptations have had to be made in light of the ongoing situation.  The self-response deadline to respond to the Census has been extended to August 14th.

According to tracking from https://2020census.gov, Washington County’s self-response rate for the Census sits at 36.1 percent of households as of this afternoon.  Internet responses make up 21.4 percent of Washington County’s response.  Dating back to the 2010 Census, Washington County’s response then was 61.7 percent.

Data also shows the responses for individual cities.  So far, Brenham’s self-response rate is 38.2 percent, with Internet responses making up 29.4 percent of the city’s response.  Brenham’s self-response total in 2010 was 68.1 percent.  Meanwhile, Burton checks in at 17.9 percent, with an 8.5 percent Internet response rate.  Burton’s 2010 self-response total was 59.4 percent.

Washington County’s response rate as of this afternoon is the highest of all surrounding counties.  The rates for area counties are:

Austin County: 29 percent,

Brazos County: 32.7 percent,

Burleson County: 25.7 percent,

Fayette County: 29.9 percent,

Grimes County: 25.5 percent,

Lee County: 30.8 percent,

Waller County: 26 percent.

In comparison, the state’s self-response rate checks in at 33.4 percent, with Internet response making up 29.4 percent of the state’s response.  For the 2010 Census, the state’s final self-response total was 64.4 percent.

In March, households received United States Census Bureau mail with information on how to respond to the Census online, by phone, or by mail.  To fill out the Census online, go to https://2020census.gov.
