BLINN STUDENTS RUN FOR RECOVERY

More than 60 Blinn College students in Brenham laced up their running shoes for a cause recently, each signing a piece of a puzzle once they crossed the finish line of the first annual 5K “Run for Recovery”.  The assembled puzzle was donated today to the Brazos Valley Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse (BVCASA), where it was put on display in their Bryan treatment building.

The run, organized by staff in the Student Services Department at Blinn College, was established to raise awareness about addiction, show support for those in recovery and prevent dependency.  According to the event organizers, an estimated 23 million Americans need treatment for substance abuse.

Today staff at the BVCASA treatment facility in downtown Bryan hung the signed puzzle that reads “Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races, one after the other.”

“The message on the picture embodies what we try to teach to our clients,” said Crystal Crowell, BVCASA Executive Director. “We are thankful to Blinn College and the students who participated for helping us to raise awareness about the impact of addiction and beautify our facility at the same time.”
