BRENHAM COUNCIL APPROVES REWORDING ON POLICY MANUAL

Brenham City Council approved the changes in the Human Resources Policy manual regarding weapons at their meeting this afternoon (Thursday).

City of Brenham Human Resources Director, Susan Nienstedt spoke on the needed word changes in order to reflect the new open carry law that has gone into effect.

City council heard from Fire Chief, Ricky Boeker, on the department’s efforts to gain interest in becoming part of the department.

Boeker goes on to say that eventually, a 4 person team minimum for every fire truck would be ideal for the department

Council discussed and approved the acceptance of a $38,062.65 grant from the 100 Club of Houston to be used towards tactical equipment for the Brenham Police Department and a grant application submission to the Bluebonnet Community Grant Program for cameras to be placed at the Brenham Municipal Airport with a 10% match to the grant. Angela Hahn with the Police Department says the cameras are needed in order to lower criminal activity.

Also approved was the bid for the 2016 Mowing and Cleanup Services for City departments. Due to changes that have happened over the past three years, the 2016 bids came in at $21,360 lower than in 2013. Gene’s Services bid the lowest and staff feels comfortable awarding the bid to Gene’s as he has been the current vendor for the last three years.
