The suspect in a Brazos County double-homicide that occurred over a year ago is dead.

The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year old Dennis Wayne Brown III was found in his cell at the County Jail, Monday around noon, and was pronounced dead a short time later.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.

Brown was accused of stabbing Noel Devin and her father Mac to death at her home on Vinewood Drive in April of 2014—just days after his release from prison.

Investigators say he then set the home on fire. A grand jury indicted Brown for capital murder, arson and burglary. The Brazos County District Attorney’s Office says they had planned to seek the death penalty.

This past February, Brown was charged with assault on a public servant and having a deadly weapon in a penal institution. Brown was accused fo stabbing a jailer.

The Texas Rangers will conduct an independent investigation as required anytime a prisoner dies in police custody.

A Custodial Death Report will be forwarded to the Texas Attorney General for review.
