FAYETTE COUNTY SHERIFF MONTHLY REPORT

  

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of October 2015. Deputy Rick Bohlmann took a report of a rifle which was shipped to a gun broker in Fayette County that was reported stolen in Michigan. The rifle was recovered and returned to the owner. Bohlmann also took a report of fence damage caused by a vehicle that was located north of Schulenburg.

Deputy Ben Wilson met with Round Top State Bank in reference to a possible scam which involved a fake check and documents. The staff at the bank was able to determine the check and documents to be false and no loss of money occurred. Wilson also responded to a disturbance involving individuals behind the Bulldog Inn. Two persons involved in the disturbance were found to have illegal narcotics and those persons were arrested. Deputy Marc Bennett responded to property off of Ehler Grasshoff Road in reference to an estray cow. An owner was unable to be located and the animal was transported to Flatonia Livestock Auction to await estray proceedings. Bennett also responded to the Ledbetter area for reported burn ban violations. The fires were located being that of brush piles and the property owner of the property received a citation. The Ledbetter Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fires.

Sergeant Ron Naumann while working the antique “Prom Night” encountered an intoxicated person. The male resisted arrest and was arrested and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest. Naumann also made a traffic stop on a vehicle for driving in the left lane while not passing. Investigation into the traffic stop resulted in the driver being found in possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Investigator Angela Lala completed an investigation where a registered sex offender had absconded from his residence in the Ellinger area without notifying the Sheriff’s Office. The case was presented to the Fayette County Grand Jury and an Indictment was received. A warrant was issued and an arrest is pending.

Deputy Perry Kram located a suspicious person on State Highway 237 during the Antique Show. Investigation resulted in the man being found to be extremely intoxicated. The male was arrested and charged with public intoxication. Investigator Robert Dryden responded to a residence on FM 2237 where a burglary occurred and firearms were stolen. Dryden was able to identify a suspect and he was located already incarcerated in the Foard County Jail as the suspect and another male were found in possession of property stolen from Fayette County. Warrants were issued for the two men. Sergeant Charles Jobb took a report of a suspicious death of livestock on FM 1383. Due to decomposition and scavengers the cause of death could not be determined.

Deputy David Smith was working in the Warrenton area during the Antique Festival. Smith was flagged down by a vendor who reported a shoplifter. The shoplifter was later located and found in possession of stolen items. She was arrested and charged with theft of property. Smith also responded to the area of Owl Creek where a vehicle was reported submerged in the low water crossing which was flooded. The driver of the vehicle was able to get out and avoided injury. Deputy Daitwan Walker responded to a disturbance at a residence of Jackson Road. A person at the location was charged with simple assault and both parties were separated for the remainder of the evening. Walker also responded to another disturbance at a residence off of Makinson Road. There, one person was arrested for assault.

 

Deputy Darrell Maze responded to a possible suicidal person call at a residence off of US Hwy 90 near Flatonia. Contact was established with the person and he was transported to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office where a caseworker from Blue Bonnet Trails provided a mental evaluation. The patient was found not to need further treatment and he was transported back home. Deputy Maze also responded to a shots fired call in the area on Plum Church Road. Investigation into the call resulted in two males being located in the area at a residence found to be road hunting and in possession of wild game. The case was turned over to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden.

Deputy Joe Martin responded to a burglary of a building on State Highway 71 where the front door was breached and a laptop was reported missing. Martin also responded to the area of St. James Church Road and State Highway 71 for a possible traffic accident. There a female suffered from an unknown medical issue which caused her to leave the roadway. A family member arrived and took custody of her. Deputy Castleberry assisted Mental Health Care Workers with a welfare check on a subject who lives off of Trinity School Road. Castleberry also responded to Hermes Elementary School for a possible mental patient. The person was located and no further treatment was needed.

Deputy Michael Otten attempted to stop a vehicle in the City of La Grange. A pursuit ensued and the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. The driver of the vehicle was identified and a warrant has been issued. Otten also responded to a low water crossing in Willow Springs which was flooded. A vehicle attempted to cross the high water and was submerged. The driver escaped from the vehicle without injury. Deputy Ken Kretz responded to a disturbance at a  residence in the Schulenburg area. One person was arrested. Deputy Casey Thumann located a male subject in the Stripes Parking Lot in Schulenburg who was displaying odd behavior. The male was found to be intoxicated and was arrested. Thumann also worked an incident in the Warrenton area where an officer working traffic was struck by a vehicle and the driver of the vehicle fled by foot. The officer was not injured in this incident. The driver was identified and an arrest warrant was obtained.

Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 78 individuals for the month of October and transported 6 individuals to the Texas Department of Corrections Facilities to begin serving time for crimes committed in Fayette County.
