FAYETTE COUNTY SHERIFF DEPUTIES APPREHENDS FUGITIVE

  

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports a Fugitive that has been on the run since Sunday has been apprehended by Sheriff’s Deputies.

Sheriff Korenek states the episode began in Gonzales County when law enforcement attempted to arrest the man for two outstanding warrants issued by the State Parole Board and Galveston County. This culprit fled and eluded capture from authorities.  The incident continued when Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies answered a suspicious vehicle call on Wednesday afternoon in the area of Jackson Road.

Upon Deputies arrival, the male again fled into the woods and eluded capture. Deputies investigated and identified the registered owners of the truck which later revealed the identity of the fleeing suspect. It was not until Thursday afternoon that the Sheriff’s Office received a call of a suspicious male in the area of Frank Road which is south of Buckner’s Creek of FM 609.

A local property owner identified a male similar in description as being involved in a theft.  Deputies again saturated the area and searched diligently for the suspect in the dense and brushy area but were unable to locate him.

Later in the evening, Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call in regard to a traffic accident on US 77N near Warda. Sheriff’s Deputy Casey Thumann arrived and located the wrecked vehicle hit a guardrail and culvert. Thumann was informed by witnesses the driver had fled the scene. A registration check on the vehicle revealed that it was registered to an address on Jackson Road where Deputies had been searching for the suspect.  Off Duty Sheriff’s Deputy Darrel Maze who resides in Warda was contacted to respond and assist.

Moments later Deputies located the suspect and a foot pursuit began, however it was short-lived and the suspect was taken into custody.  As additional Deputies including Marc Bennett, Sgt. Ron Naumann and Daitwan Walker arrived to assist, the suspect was being combative and activing bizarre. An Emergency Medical Unit responded and the suspect was later transported to St. Mark’s Hospital in LaGrange.

The suspect was identified as 32 year old Michael Scott Hughes Jr. of Gonzales, Texas. Hughes is being held for the outstanding warrants and has additional charges pending for the continuing criminal episode in Fayette County
