GRIMES COUNTY COMMISSIONERS DISCUSS BULLET TRAIN PLAN

The Grimes County Commissioners held a conference call on Wednesday with Congressman Kevin Brady’s office along with Senator Charles Schwertner and six of the seven rural counties being affected by the proposed bullet train to discuss the feasibility of the project.

Grimes County Judge is hoping the deal will not come to fruition, while others believe it would be an advantage to those in the county.

Proponents believe that there would be economic benefits for the north end of the county, but counties like Grimes County doesn’t think the rail is sustainable without taxpayer assistance, and would be a detriment to landowners, citing compensation, access, and noise, and lowering property values.

The Texas Central Railway has said they would work on concerning each of those issues.

The Texas Central Railway would fund the $10 billion line that would get passenger from Dallas to Houston in approximately 90 minutes, traveling approximately 205 miles per hour on electrified rail lines, in which Grimes County is the TCR’s preferred route, but avoiding the Bryan/College Station area.

Leon County Commissioners have already voted to oppose the plan.
