HOUSTON MAN ARRESTED FOR GRIMES COUNTY MURDER

A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder after police say he shot a fellow teenager in Stoneham who owed him money.

The Grimes County Sheriff's office says Tyrus Jamond Peters was arrested on charges of first-degree felony murder early Friday in Houston.

Peters is accused of fatally shooting Conroe resident David Avery Brown, also 19, late Tuesday night.

If convicted, Peters faces five years to life in prison and a $10,000 fine for the killing.

Police say Peters, who is also known as "Puff," and two other men picked up Brown from his family's apartment in Conroe in order to get money Brown owed him.

Brown then allegedly took the three men to a house near Navasota, where he gave Peters a set of speakers instead of money.

Police documents say that after the speakers were loaded into the trunk of the car, Peters pointed a handgun at Brown, who began pleading for his life. Peters then shot Brown multiple times, police say.

Police documents say authorities were first alerted to the incident early Wednesday morning, when the sheriff's department received a call of a deceased person on a front porch, later identified as Brown.

The woman who called police said she heard several gunshots late Tuesday night, and a male subject banging on her door and calling for help. The woman, who was frightened, told police that after a short time the noise stopped, and she assumed the man left.

An official with the Grimes County Sheriff's office said Peters is a Harris County resident. Peters has been booked into the Harris County jail and will be transferred to Grimes County, the official said.
