LCRA DEDICATES NEW PLANT

The Lower Colorado River Authority has dedicated a new power plant.

The new Thomas C. Ferguson Power Plant in Horseshoe Bay is a 540-megawatt combined-cycle power plant, producing power for the state's electric grid.

LCRA officials call it one of the newest, most efficient and reliable electric generating facilities in Texas.

The new $500 million natural gas plant replaces the original Thomas C. Ferguson plant on Lake LBJ.

LCRA General Manager Phil Wilson says the plant will serve Texans for many years with cost-effective, reliable power.

Wilson says it is important as the state grows and needs for power expand.

Hel also says the new plant is one of the most environmentally responsible power plants in Texas, producing 30 to 40 percent fewer emissions per megawatt-hour than the old plant and using only one-third of the water of a comparably sized steam plant.
