MAY REBATES DOWN IN BRENHAM/WASHINGTON CO.

  

The City of Brenham and Washington County saw their sales tax rebates drop this past month.

Brenham’s May sales tax revenue totaled $540,875 – a 7.3-percent drop from last year’s May rebate of $583,923.

For the year, Brenham has received $2,582,849 in sales tax revenue – down 1.1-percent from last year’s total of $2,612,370.

The May rebate for Washington County is $231,549 – down .5-percent from last May’s total of $232,689.

So far this year, Washington County’s payments total $1,058,513, down 1.1 percent from 2015’s total $1,070,631.

The City of Burton had a rebate of $4,903, up 56.5-percent from last year’s $3131.

For the year, Burton has received $16,582, up 24.3 percent from last year’s $13,344.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar’s office sent out $767.7 million in local sales tax allocations for May, 1.1 percent more than in May 2015.

The May rebates are based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly, and sales made in January, February and March by quarterly filers.
