OIL FIELD BLAST INJURES WORKER IN ROBERTSON COUNTY

  

An afternoon oil field blast could be felt for miles around Robertson County after two tanks erupted into flames when a well was being capped.

At least one worker was injured in the blast that happened about four miles east of Franklin in the town of New Baden. That worker had to be airlifted to Houston’s Hermann Hospital. The victim is said to have burns to his head and neck after the tanks were engulfed in flames..
Plumes of black smoke could be seen for several miles.
The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office sent out every available fire unit in the area on standby as they kept a close on the fire. Firefighters from College Station with special training in putting out oil field fires finally assessed the fire to be under control and were allowing it to burn out.
Volunteer firefighters from Franklin, Calvert, Bremond, Wheelock and Easterly responded to the explosion along with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Department of Transportation.
