PROPERTY TAX NOTICES: THEY’RE IN THE MAIL

It’s that time of year again; the Washington County Tax Appraisal Office has begun sending out property tax statements.

Notices are usually sent out closer to the first of October, but Willy Dilworth, Chief Appraiser, tells us why they are a week late and what to expect different on this year’s bill.

The statement contains an explanation of the increase in the homestead exemption and, and with the Texas Legislature provisionally increasing the amount of the average homestead exemption to $25,000 from $15,000, Dilworth says that the average homestead exemption for Brenham residents should be around $113.00, and the average Burton resident should see a $117.00, all contingent on whether voters approve the proposition in November.
