FOURTH GRADERS TAKE A TOUR OF HISTORIC BRENHAM
Fourth graders from the public schools in Brenham took a tour of the many historical sites around our town today during the second annual History Day.
The students are seeing such places at the Ant Street Inn, Toubin Park and the Brenham Heritage Museum. Many historical figures will come to life to speak to the students about their role in local history. One of the stops was at the Washington County Courthouse Gazebo, where Rich Perkins portraying Daniel McGarrity, the first publisher of the Banner Press, who described the burning of Brenham at the end of the Civil War in 1865.
Darron Smith portrayed Henry Foster, who opened up the first school for African-Americans in Brenham.
The Brenham History Day allows students to have the opportunity to tour some Brenham’s historical places with the added bonus of meeing the forefathers of the community.
