LCRA RECOGNIZED FOR FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY SIXTH YEAR IN A ROW

The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts has awarded the Lower Colorado River Authority a 2015 PLATINUM Leadership Circle Award for achieving the highest standard of financial transparency online.

This marks the sixth consecutive year LCRA has been listed in the Comptroller’s Leadership Circle, a group of organizations that have achieved recognition from the agency for financial transparency.

“LCRA takes its responsibility to the public very seriously,” said Phil Wilson, general manager of LCRA. “This is the sixth year we’ve received the Comptroller’s highest designation for making our financial information easily accessible. We have high standards and are proud to be repeatedly recognized for our financial transparency.”

LCRA Board Chair Timothy Timmerman said, “The LCRA Board of Directors makes transparency a top priority, and it is gratifying to receiving this recognition from the Comptroller.’’

Membership in the Comptroller’s Leadership Circle demonstrates that LCRA has opened its books to the public; provides clear, consistent pictures of spending; and shares information in a user-friendly format that lets the public easily drill down for more detail. Platinum awards are given to organizations that exceed the requirements of the gold award, including the posting of budgets, financial reports and check registers, as well as debt obligations.

LCRA also received a platinum certification in 2014, the first year the designation was available. Prior to that, LCRA received a gold certification, the highest certification available at the time, in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

The Comptroller of Public Accounts launched the Texas Comptroller Leadership Circle program in December 2009 to recognize local governments across Texas that meet a high standard for financial transparency online.
