BLINN ARTS DEPARTMENT INVITES COMMUNITY TO CAMPUS FOR HANDS-ON FUN

  

Blinn College invites art lovers to enjoy a hands-on look at its Art Department during a special open-house event today (Saturday).

Hosted at the C.F. Schmidt Building on the Blinn-Brenham campus (map), “Come Play and Create a Future: A Day in the Arts” will take place from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and will include brunch, a guided tour of the Blinn-Brenham campus art facilities and the opportunity for visitors to create their own art with paint and clay. Blinn music students will perform as a flute ensemble, and art students will be on hand to demonstrate what they have learned in Blinn art classes, including their work with clay, paints and even jewelry design and creation.

The event is part of a drive to fund 15 endowed scholarships for art students on the Blinn-Brenham campus.

“We want everyone to enjoy themselves and build support for the program,” said Doug Peck, arts professor. “We hope this event will allow us to connect with the community and demonstrate all that we offer and what our needs are.”

Blinn’s Arts Department offers students the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the creative process through lecture- and studio-based classes. Art appreciation and history classes delve into examination of the creative form through the ages, while Blinn’s hands-on courses allow students to learn the fundamentals, elements and principles of creating art in both traditional and digital mediums.

The department is part of Blinn’s Division of Visual/Performing Arts & Kinesiology, which offers programs in arts, architecture, communication studies, kinesiology, music and theatre arts.
