NAVASOTA REACHES AGREEMENT OVER ARTIFACTS

  

The Navasota city council has reached an agreement on the storage of historic artifacts.

The council has approved an agreement between the city and the Two Rivers Heritage Foundation for the “display, care and storage of historical artifacts” in the Horlock Historical Collection.

In addition, Two Rivers will have use of the Best Museum in the Horlock House for exhibition of the artifacts and may schedule special events through the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley at the Horlock House.

Two Rivers chairman, Betty Dunn, addressed the council stating that the condition of some of the artifacts has been compromised because of the manner of storage after removal from the Horlock House, specifically adverse temperatures and flooding.

Assistant city manager Shawn Myatt says, the city does not have the expertise or knowledge, for caring for and storing histroic items.  He added the city also does not have staff that can do that on a full-time basis.
