WORK TO BEGIN ON FLOOD DAMAGED BRIDGE IN OCTOBER

Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation say construction on the Highway 36 bridge, damaged by the 2016 flood, will begin in October.

TxDOT spokesman Bobby Colwell says the project should take about five months.

According to Colwell, pilings underneath the Wolf Creek bridge were heavily damaged by flooding in May 2016, as debris was swept down the creek.

Colwell said the pilings underneath the bridge, located on Highway 36 north of Brenham, were heavily damaged by debris that was swept down the creek after heavy rains.

Northbound lanes across the bridge were closed, as traffic across the bridge was rerouted to a single lane for northbound and southbound vehicles.

Colwell says a contractor has not yet been selected.  The project is expected to be completed in spring of 2018.
