TRIAL OF FORMER AUSTIN CO. TAX ASSESSOR DELAYED

The theft trial of former Austin County Tax Assessor-Collector Marcus Pena has been delayed.
Pena was arrested and charged with first degree felony theft by a public servant. His trial, which was to have begun today (Monday) has been delayed until March 8th.
Pena’s is charged with theft of property between $150,000 and $300,000, and misappropriation of fiducial/financial property between those same amounts.
At a pre-trial hearing in late November, Pena indicated that he planned to plead guilty.
Visiting Judge Dwight Peschel will preside over the trial, which will now begin, Thursday, March 8th.
