BURTON CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS SWORN IN THIS EVENING

  

Four members of the Burton City Council will be sworn in at their meeting this (Monday) evening.  Jeff Eckhardt, Tommie Gilmon, Dale Schwartz, and Jerry Martin will take the oath of office for the council.  They all were unopposed for their positions.  Councilmembers will also appoint a Mayor Pro-Tem.

Also on the agenda for this evening’s meeting, council will consider designating South Main Street in Burton as a 20 MPH Zone.  They will also consider establishing a Burton Beautification and Compliance Committee.

The Burton City Council is also expected to create a Court Security Committee and consider the audit of Seizure Funds.

The Burton City Council meets this evening (Monday) at 5:30 at the Burton City Hall.

  1. Regarding beautification:
    Goals should be set for streetlong projects. All vacant or derelect proprties on Main St. should be earmarked for occupancy, restoration, sale or demolition. This includes the l/2 block across from the Brazos Belle, the vacant property across from City Hall, the vacant garages adjacent to Dales Automotive, and the dangerous and depalidated garage across from Dale’s. Owners of historical property should be required to seek professional advice and restore their buildings. Those projects, if completed, will make Burton property more valuable, more taxable and more attractive to investors. Burton must issue citations for non performance.

    1. You mean actually act like a municipality and not a good ol’ boys club? Novel idea.
