LOCAL HISTORIC COMMISSION RECEIVES 21ST STRAIGHT DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
The Washington County Historical Commission received its 21st consecutive Distinguished Service Award at today’s (Tuesday) County Commissioners meeting.
The WCHC received the award from the Texas Historical Commission, for accomplishments from last years’ service. Washington County was one of just 80 counties to receive the award across Texas, and among fewer to have received it consecutively.
WCHC president Dr. Wilfred Dietrich was present to receive the award, saying the commission wants to eventually place a historical marker by the First Methodist Church, and a World War I memorial on the courthouse square. He also said he spoke with the director of the Brenham Heritage Museum, and wants to place historical markers at all of the area schools.
