CITY OF BRENHAM INSTALLING EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT IN LOCAL BUILDINGS

Brenham officials are in the process of installing lifesaving devices throughout key city buildings.

Equipment like automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) and first aid cabinets is being placed in “high-traffic” buildings through Brenham.

Brenham Fire Department Chief Ricky Boeker says these defibrillators can spot life-threatening conditions and administer electric shock.

Boeker is in charge of the effort to install these devices through the city.  He says the ultimate goal is to have them in most major city buildings, in case of medical emergencies.

Boeker says City Manager James Fisher has prioritized this project ever since he took office.  He also says the project is in its first stage, with 19 units purchased and installed so far.

Each AED costs about $1,750, accounted for in the city’s budget.  The project will move towards the second phase at the start of the new budget year.

Boeker says the city is in the process of getting training scheduled and completed for all city employees, so everyone can use the AEDs effectively.  He is also working with EMS to acquire Stop Bleed Kits.

  1. It is good to see this being done, but seriously, I cannot understand why AED’s have not been installed in the past. These are important life saving devices and the technology has been around for years. I have had them installed in my workplace for years, my church has them, airports and airplanes, malls, department stores, and most public places have these. I am curious to know if Washington County has them in their buildings?
