PIPELINE LEAK SITE NEAR BURTON GIVEN ALL-CLEAR

  

Authorities have cleared the scene, and all roads are now open, near the site of a gas leak at a well site in western Washington County.

The incident was reported just after 9 a.m. Friday morning at a well site located on Upshaw Road, southwest of Burton and north of Carmine. Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke said crews were working on a 2-inch line when it began to leak a mixture of gases.

Personnel from Enterprise Products Partners have relieved pressure from the line. They have the situation under control.

Enterprise spokesman Rick Rainey said there were no injuries or fire, and the impact of the leak was limited to the immediate area.  Personnel reported during the leak that there was no instant danger to the residents in the area.

The all-clear was given overnight for the area of US 290 at Upshaw Road, North Hauptstrasse Street at Upshaw Road, and Upshaw Road at Homeyer Mountain Road.

Police and sheriff’s deputies are currently blocking off roads in the immediate area, and checking on residents near the location.  EMS and Fire Department officials are there on a standby basis.

Enterprise personnel have evaluated the situation and are currently in the process of relieving pressure from a line.  They have stated that this could take several hours, but that the situation is under control.

Personnel are checking the air quality, but they are reporting no immediate danger to the residents in the immediate area.

Roads will continue to be blocked off until the line has been cleared.  Residents are asked to avoid the area of US 290 at Upshaw Road, and Upshaw Road at Homeyer Mountain Road until further notice.
