Members of the Washington County Veterans Association gathered earlier today (Monday) for the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Brenham American Legion Post 48.

James F. Dillon VFW Post 7104 Commander Ben Seeker served as the master of ceremonies for the event.

State Senator Lois Kolkhorst was one of the many guest speakers on the program. Kolkhorst talked about one of the most difficult things she has to do as a Senator.

Other speakers included Washington County Judge John Durrenberger, Brenham Mayor Atwood Kenjura, and Burton Mayor Karen Buck.

Newly elected State Representative Trey Wharton was unable to attend, but sent a prepared statement thanked the Veterans for their service.

Captain Jeffrey Bayse (Craig Montana)

The Keynote Speaker was Captain Jeffrey Bayse, who serves as the Senior Marine Instructor for the Brenham High School for the Junior ROTC program.

Bayse discussed his upbringing, running with the wrong crowd, and how the Marine Corp turned his life around.

In his presentation, Bayse talked about wanting kids to see that there is more to life than taking the easy way out.

The event closed with the local veterans and auxiliary members being recognized with the ringing of the bell and playing of “Taps.”
