Smidt won 2018’s gold buckle with over $232,000, placing in six of ten rounds at the rodeo and winning the average with 83.7 seconds on ten head of cattle.

Smidt started off strong, winning the first round with a time of 7.6 seconds.  In the second round, he came in second at 7.8 seconds, following that up with a sixth place finish at 7.9 seconds in round three.

He would then place fifth in round five at 8.5 seconds, tie for fourth in round eight at 7.6 seconds, and tie for sixth at 8.1 seconds in the tenth round.

Smidt is married to Brenna Byler, sister of Will Byler of Bellville.  Will and his newlywed wife Bailee Ackermann were killed in November in a tragic helicopter accident.

Smidt’s past world title came in 2015.  He also finished seventh in the world in 2017.
