53-year-old Rod Sterling Clanton had a warrant for his arrest out of Real County, on a charge of making terroristic threats against a family member. The warrant was issued earlier this week, according to Real County Sheriff Nathan Johnson.

Clanton is accused of shooting and killing his stepbrother, 54-year-old Stephen Craig Bishop of Bogata, in December of 2016, near the intersection of OSR and Highway 21 in Bryan.

In that case, authorities said Clanton and Bishop were in a heated argument over money Clanton lent to Bishop’s nephew several months beforehand. They said he demanded he be repaid, and made threats of what would happen if he wasn’t.

After a 911 call from Clanton, investigators discovered Bishop in his truck, with a single gunshot wound to his head.

During 2016’s investigation, the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office said they were told by Clanton that Bishop had shown a weapon during the argument, so Clanton grabbed his. Clanton told them he pointed the gun at Bishop, but blacked out and did not recall pulling the trigger.  He was reported to be cooperative and surrendered to authorities.

Brazos County court documents show that a hearing is scheduled in February, to potentially revoke Clanton's bond on the murder charge over several violations.

Clanton remained in the Brazos County Jail Friday evening, on $50,000 bond. Real County authorities have requested Clanton wear a GPS ankle bracelet upon bond release, stating safety concerns and that he previously left the state while out on bond.
