CATHOLIC DIOCESES NAME CLERGY ACCUSED OF ABUSE; 12 SERVED IN BRAZOS VALLEY

Catholic leaders have published the names of over 280 priests who have been accused of sexually abusing children, 12 of which served in churches in the Brazos Valley.

Thursday afternoon, 14 dioceses in Texas named 286 priests, with the Dioceses of Austin and Galveston-Houston identifying 12. Five of the priests accused have been removed from the ministry or laicized, while the other seven have died.

The information published in the report does not indicate if abuse occurred at any of the locations where a priest worked. In addition, it does not confirm or deny that allegations were proven true or false.

According to church officials, these allegations date from now back to 1950.

Clergy members listed locally include:

  • George Patrick Dougherty, who served at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission, both in Navasota. Dougherty was removed from the ministry in 1996, and died in 2002.
