WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER SUPPORTING BURLESON CO. ATTORNEY AS LONE PROSECUTOR
Washington County Commissioners will meet Tuesday to consider supporting legislation to grant the Burleson County Attorney felony jurisdiction.
The court will look at a resolution that was recently passed by Burleson County Commissioners, which supports a bill to allow their county attorney, Susan Deski, to take on felony prosecutions. Currently, Washington County District Attorney Julie Renken handles felony cases in Washington and Burleson Counties.
Also in court, commissioners will hear the district attorney’s request to hire a new assistant district attorney, at a salary higher than the standard salary due to the candidate’s experience. At the court’s meeting on December 11, 2018, commissioners approved the county attorney’s office to offer the position at a starting salary of $80,000, rather than the standard of $60,000 for candidates right out of law school.
The county will also look at agreements with Justice Benefits, Incorporated and nCourt LLC. In addition, commissioners will hear a notice for utility installation for a temporary water line in county right-of-way of Longpoint Road, in Precinct 3. They will also look at a subdivision variance request for land fronting Captain Scott Road, just southwest of Independence.
Commissioners will also hear a series of yearly reports from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, District and County Clerks, Constables, and Fairgrounds Management.
The court will also look to adjust its schedule later this month, moving its meeting on February 26th a day up to February 25th.
Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse.
