BURTON CITY COUNCIL PRESENTS BUDGET FOR PUBLIC HEARING
The Burton City Council held a quiet public hearing Tuesday for the city’s proposed 2019-20 budget.
No one from the public came forward or gave any comments about the budget. The city’s proposed budget balances out at $285,575 of revenue and expenditures, from this April through next March.
Some noteworthy expenditures in this budget include $69,000 in bond payment, with $15,825 in payment interest; $25,200 for street repair; $24,500 in state criminal costs and fees; $66,060 for wages and payroll taxes; and $15,000 for accounting and auditing. The city agreed at its February council meeting to have a third-party audit done, its first since 2010.
In revenue, the budget accounts for $121,970 of property tax income, $75,173 of sales tax income, and $72,840 of court and fine revenue.
Councilmembers also presented the city’s water and sewer budget for hearing, which was approved at their meeting in January. That budget estimates $200,563 in revenue and expenditures.
The council did not mention any changes to the tax rate, currently set at 50 cents per $100 valuation.
The budget will go for final review at the council’s meeting next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
