The Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department held their 20th Annual Festival this past Friday and Saturday.

The highlight of the annual event is the BBQ Cookoff and Rib Shootout, which this year featured 55 teams participating.

Due to the rainfall received on Thursday and Friday, the event had to be moved from the Chappel Hill Fire Station to the Washington County Expo in Brenham.

The Post Oak Cookers were the Overall Winners.

The Post Oak Cookers won the Beef Competition with 2 Hot 2 Handle coming in second, and Robby D Texas Q’Zine coming in third.

The Kowboy Cookers won the Rib Shootout with the Post Oak Cookers finishing second, and the Salty Dog Cookers finishing third.

The Sweet Meat Cookers won the Chicken Competition with the Post Oak Cookers coming in second and the River Bottom Cookers in third.

Meanwhile, in the Beans Competition, the Citadel Motorcycle Club finished first, the No Count Cookers were second, and the 30 Rack Cookers were third.

According to spokeswoman Marcy Kmiec, they unofficially raised over $40,000 at the event.  The proceeds are going towards a new fire apparatus for the department that is on order, and should arrive by the end of the year.
