BLINN’S CLAY SHOOTOUT RAISES $120,000, LARGEST FUNDRAISING EVENT IN COLLEGE HISTORY

  

The 2019 Clay Shootout marked the largest fundraising event in Blinn College District history, raising $120,000 in support of Blinn students.

Hosted by the Blinn College Alumni and Friends Association and the Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen Association, the Clay Shootout doubled its 2018 fundraising total with the support of $65,000 in sponsorships.

Stylecraft Builders provided a $15,000 underwriter sponsorship, and Blue Bell, MDX Safety Consulting, and Brenham National Bank each sponsored $5,000 flights. Bank of Brenham provided a $3,000 sponsorship for the event’s newly unveiled games of chicken scratch bingo.

“The unprecedented success of this year’s Clay Shootout demonstrates the incredible support the Blinn College District receives from its friends and neighbors, and the value our communities place on higher education,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, Chancellor of the Blinn College District. “To everyone who stepped forward to support this event and the Blinn College students it benefits, we express our sincere appreciation.”

ABM, CC Creations, Citizens State Bank, Collier Construction, Germania Insurance, Halo, Jones DBR Engineering, King Custom Homes, Kirksey Architecture, MLN, Paragon Financial, PBK Architects, Plumb Level, Premiere Metals & Brazos Valley Recycling, SpawGlass, the Tejas Center, and Texas Commercial Waste each provided $1,500 station sponsorships.

“This is about the Blinn College District coming together to raise these funds,” said Phil Shackelford, Associate Director for the Blinn College Foundation. “We have donors from Washington County, Brazos County, Dallas County, Harris County – all over the state – supporting Blinn students. We appreciate the donors, the sponsors, and our underwriter for making such a significant impact in the lives of students and employees at Blinn College.”

The event attracted 65 teams totaling 260 shooters, and more than 100 Blinn students, faculty, staff, and community members volunteered to make the fundraiser a success.

“It is such a privilege to work alongside so many sponsors, community volunteers, students, faculty, and staff from across the Blinn College District coming together to make this the largest fundraising event in Blinn College history,” said Deanna Alfred, President of the Alumni and Friends Association. “These funds will make a positive difference in the lives of Blinn College students, faculty, and staff.”

Citizens State Bank won the overall team competition, with Brenham National Bank placing second and S&B Plumbing placing third. Don Landers was the overall male winner and David Chandler placed second, while Katelin Holliday was the overall female winner and Karen Ward placed second.

In the 8:30 a.m. flight, Tres Masser placed first, Lenny Kirts placed second, and Casey Cox placed third. In the 11:30 a.m. flight, Landers placed first, Chandler placed second, and Masser placed third.  In the 2:30 p.m. flight, Aaron Flencher placed first, Jeff Paul placed second, and Rusty Shrader placed third.

“Every dollar we raise goes back to Blinn College and Blinn College athletics,” said Kevin Bosse, President of the Alumni Lettermen Association. “After everything is said and done, we give that money back to the students.”
