EARLY VOTING BEGINS MONDAY FOR MAY ELECTIONS
Polls open today (Monday) for the City of Brenham, Blinn College, and Burton School Board elections.
Early voting gets underway today and runs through Friday at the Washington County Courthouse Annex, located at 100 South Park Street across from the courthouse. Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. this week, with extended hours next Monday and Tuesday until 8 p.m.
For the Burton School Board elections, early voting lasts until next Tuesday at the Burton Administration Office at 701 North Railroad Street, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday. Next Saturday’s election will take place in the Burton High School lobby from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
For Brenham Mayor, incumbent Milton Tate faces former mayor and Washington County Judge Dorothy Morgan. For the Ward 4 City Council seat, incumbent Danny Goss is being challenged by Adonna Saunders.
On the Blinn Board of Trustees, H.F. Poehlmann and Dennis Crowson are vying for the At-Large Position 3 seat currently held by David Sommer, who is not seeking re-election.
In the Burton election, four candidates are running for two spots on the school board, along with another two candidates competing in a special election. Incumbents Demetrius Colvin and Jeff Harmel will face challengers Sue Pinkerton and Jon Johnson. In addition, incumbent Ande Bostain will face challenger John Parffrey for the special election.
County Clerk Beth Rothermel said polling places for the two elections may be different than county elections for some voters. She added that voters in several precincts will have to vote in two places if they wait until Election Day.
By voting early at the courthouse annex, voters can avoid having to go to two different places on Election Day. Rothermel said some of the rural precincts have also been consolidated.
For voting by mail, applications will need to be mailed, faxed, or emailed in. The original application needs to be in to the county within four days, if faxing or emailing.
