DIME BOX ISD TO GO TO 4-DAY SCHOOL WEEK

  

A Lee County school district will be making a drastic change to their class schedule, next fall.

The Dime Box School District will be adopting a four day school week.

Beginning next year, going to school on Mondays won't be mandatory.

The school will still be open five days a week but students will be able to choose whether to attend on Mondays. The class day and periods will also be extended for the regular instruction days, making classes longer.

Dime Box Superintendent Nicholas West said there's been a lot of positive feedback.  Supporters believe it will provide more options for specialized instruction, tutoring and field trips.

West says it’s not a financial decision, but an attempt to do what they believe is best for students and families.

Dime Box officials say there will also be some cost savings with the schedule change.  They'll save money on bus routes and building operations.

Staff will also be given extra personal days to take some Mondays off.
