Three local organizations have received grants from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) totaling nearly $40,000.
The LCRA presented checks Tuesday to the Prairie Hill-Rocky Hill Fire Department for $21,025, Burton Independent School District for $10,000, and the Washington County Chamber of Commerce for $8,000.
The fire department will use the grant, along with $5,256 in matching contributions, to purchase a new all-terrain vehicle, trailer and other firefighting and rescue equipment.
Burton ISD will use the grant, in addition to $2,500 in matching contributions, to install a shade cover for the community playground at the elementary school.
The Washington County Chamber of Commerce will use the grant, combined with a matching contribution of $2,000, to install two new air-conditioning units.
The community grants are among a number of grants recently awarded through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program. The program is part of LCRA’s effort to give back to the communities it serves.
Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted July 1-31. For more information, visit www.lcra.org/cdpp.
