FAYETTE CO. COMMISSIONERS APPROVE COMPANY TO BEGIN SEISMIC SURVEYING

Fayette County Commissioners have approved a company to start collecting 3-D seismic survey data on resident-owned land.

Commissioners recently approved Diversified Land Management Inc., on behalf of Seitel Data LTD, to begin conducting seismic surveys in the east and northeastern parts of Fayette County.  The company will be using vibrator trucks and thumper trucks to collect data.

In places where trees are too thick and vibrators cannot be used, then the operations will require the use of explosives.  Planners expect one out of every ten operations will use explosives, but not many will be used due to their cost.

The 3-D jobs are done over a grid, with trucks only working on grid lines.  The vibrator trucks go in the opposite direction of the receiver lines, which pick up the vibrations of the trucks.

The receivers are metal boxes that will be placed on private property, but only if that property is leased.
