NEW WATER RATE STRUCTURE FOR CITY OF BRENHAM NOW EFFECTIVE

Beginning today (Tuesday), Brenham residents will see some increases to their water bills.

The Brenham City Council in August approved changes to the rate tariff schedule for the cost of water services.  Those changes become effective today.

With the new rate structure, the average monthly residential water bill—based on 5,000 consumption gallons—will go up 99 cents from $24.79 to $25.78, a 4 percent increase.

According to the 2019 Texas Municipal League Survey, the average bill for residences in cities of 15,000 to 20,000 people is $31.40.

Back in December, the city hired NewGen Strategies and Solutions, LLC to update the city’s water rate model and recommend water rate changes.  The changes are based on new cost of service projections and consumption estimates.

The city last increased its water rates in 2008.
