Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014 is touring throughout the southwest United States, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad.

The world’s largest steam engine and only operating Big Boy locomotive, after stopping in Houston Thursday, is expected to arrive in downtown Navasota tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 1:15 p.m.

The train can be seen at East McAlpine and South Railroad Streets until 1:45 p.m., when it will head out for College Station.  It will be available for public viewing there from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at F&B and Finfeather Roads in College Station.

The train will leave College Station at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, and will stop in Hearne from 9:15 to 9:30 a.m. at 2003 Market Street.  It will then stop in Jewett and Palestine before eventually arriving in Arkansas.

More than two years of restoration work by the Union Pacific Steam Team has led to the train’s return to the tracks.

To see the train’s full list of stops, go online to www.up.com/heritage/steam/schedule.

The public is reminded to use caution while watching the train, and to remember to stand at least 25 feet from the tracks.
