ROCKY CREEK BRIDGE AT FM 50 EXPECTED TO REOPEN BY END OF NOVEMBER

TxDOT officials say they expect the Rocky Creek Bridge at FM 50 to reopen by the end of the month.

The bridge has been closed since mid-July for repairs, forcing detours for drivers in between Brenham and Independence.

According to Washington County Judge John Durrenberger, who recently spoke with TxDOT Bryan District Engineer Lance Simmons, TxDOT is projecting the bridge to be open by the end of November.

The bridge detour onto FM 2621 and FM 390 caused several major accidents over the summer, with two fatal accidents on FM 2621 in July.

The $6.5 million project, being contracted out to Big Creek Construction, consists of the bridge replacement along with road improvements along FM 50, starting at Highway 105 and going five miles north.  The bridge was damaged during the storms of May 2016.

Drivers should still expect delays after the reopening of the bridge, as the road will still be under construction.
