SUSPENDED BRYAN ASSISTANT CHIEF RETIRES
(Brazos Co. Jail)
In the midst of an Assault investigation, Assistant Bryan Police Chief Wayland Rawls has stepped down from his job.
The Bryan Police Department announced that Rawls has retired, effective immediately.
Rawls was with the Bryan Department for 24 years. He was charged with assault last week amid a Texas Rangers investigation into a February 8th incident at a school fundraiser, where witnesses claimed Rawls punched a defenseless man numerous times in the head and body resulting in injuries.
KBTX reported that Rawls was convicted of misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury in Harris County back in 1991.
The criminal case against Rawls is still active and under the jurisdiction of Brazos County Attorney Rod Anderson.
