RON PARKER BEGINS NEW ROLE AS CITY OF BRENHAM POLICE CHIEF
The Brenham Police Department is now officially under new leadership.
Today (Monday) marks new Brenham Police Chief Ron Parker’s first day on the job. The City of Brenham announced in January it had chosen Parker to fill the position formerly held by Allwin Barrow, who retired in November.
Parker, who introduced himself to the Brenham community at a meet-and-greet Thursday, was most recently the Chief of Police in La Porte.
Parker said he has grandchildren in the Austin and Houston area, so his family had been looking at Brenham as a place to relocate to for a number of years. He said La Porte has grown beyond capacity, and he wanted to move somewhere a little less hectic.
Parker first met members of the Brenham Police Department a few years ago, during his service as an assessor for the Texas Police Chiefs Association’s Recognition Program. It was then that he gained quite a bit of respect for the department.
Parker is also a member of the National Domestic Preparedness Coalition, is on the advisory board for the Criminal Justice Department at San Jacinto College, and is an adjunct professor in Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University.
In this position, Parker said he hopes to get involved in the local community and share his years of experience.
Parker is married to his wife of 39 years, Debra. They have two adult children, a son and daughter, as well as four grandchildren.
