BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER DISASTER DECLARATION EXTENSION

The Brenham City Council will act on another continuation of Mayor Milton Tate’s local disaster declaration at a virtual meeting Thursday.

Last week, the council voted to extend the disaster declaration another week through this Friday.  The resolution to be considered Thursday by the council would extend the declaration again until next Friday, April 10th.

The declaration continues to follow the guidelines previously set by President Donald Trump and Governor Greg Abbott, with the added amendment of all city services—excluding emergency services—being offered by appointment only.

The council will also consider an ordinance temporarily authorizing City Manager James Fisher, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to adopt and administer policies and practices governing operation of the city’s utility systems and associated services.  The emergency measure would allow Fisher to manage the city’s utility system which may include things such as utility deferral plans—on a case-by-case basis—for commercial and/or residential customers.  If approved, the ordinance would become effective immediately.

Fisher will then provide an update to the council on the city’s COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.

The council will meet Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. via teleconference and videoconference.  The meeting will be audible to members of the public, and will allow for two-way communication for those wishing to participate in the meeting.
