WASHINGTON CO. COVID-19 CASES CLIMB TO 24; REPORTS OF COVID-19 AT A BRENHAM NURSING HOME

Washington County confirmed an additional three positive COVID-19 cases today (Tuesday), bringing the total case count to 24 and the active case count to 22.

The three cases confirmed by Washington County EMS are a man and woman, both in their 80s, and a woman in her 90s.  All three are at home under self-quarantine.

KWHI has received information from unnamed sources that there have been multiple reported cases of COVID-19 at a Brenham nursing home.  KWHI reached out to the county’s Joint Information Center (JIC) to confirm which nursing home the cases were reported at, but was told the information could not be provided due to HIPAA laws.

Of the 22 active cases, three patients are currently hospitalized, and three patients have recovered, following two more reported recoveries Tuesday.  One patient, who was reported to have multiple underlying medical conditions, died Friday.  EMS believes all cases at this point have been transmitted through community spread.

The full list of confirmed cases is available at www.washingtoncountyems.net/covid-19-confirmed-cases.  To visit the JIC website providing COVID-19 information, click here.

  1. Everyone take a step back and let common sense decide. Here are some facts that i looked up….every year, the common flu strikes 38,000,000 putting over 454,000 in the hospital and killing a tad over 24,500 in THE US ALONE. The covid-19 has(as of 2 days ago) struck over 508,500 and has killed just under 22,000 WORLDWIDE….ya see, the flu is by far deadlier. Its the constant use of the word and terms “pandemic”, “unsure times”, “troubled times”, “time of crisis” that is whats putting people in a panic. I honestly believe these numbers of covid-19 are exaggerated big time for some alterior motive (perhaps to get federal aid money) because details of a large number of positves do not make sense amd im sure some deeper investigating will confirm that…remember US Propaganda Act of 2001 allows news media to spread stories, whether they are factual or not….

    1. You are spreading the worst misinformation of all. Almost everything in your post can be debunked by simple searches.

    2. You obviously do not know what your talking about. I totally agree with “Try Searching”. You need to watch the briefings every day from the White House and listen to the doctors. The flu has like .1% if that mortality rate and the COVID-19 we are up over 2% almost 5-6% in some countries. Everybody compares the flu to the COVID-19 and the doctors clearly state there is no comparison. The COVID-19 is highly more contagious almost 10 times more. So go back and research some more Just do what the government doctors and the CDC recommends

      1. Wrong there are two problems with the argument:

        A. You’re getting A bigger percentage number because the number of cases are different.

        B. We’ve read reports on how any death is listed as COVID-19 death even if the person dies clearly of a non-COVID related case.

The numbers are skewed: even before this discovery, the New York Times were posting a count that was 800-1,000 higher than CDC.

  2. You brenham people make me not want ever visit or go to washington county to many gossips and mean people out there in this small town

    1. Stay at home-there’s a large number of Washington County residents who would prefer that tourists stay completely out of Washington County at this time. We are having a hard enough time taking care of our own without the added burden of caring for or watching out for people who are not residents of the county along with most tourists feeling we should be grateful or feeling entitled because they came here to clog our rural roads and take pictures. Smh….

    2. I actually have to agree with OUTSIDER. I’m from Washington County, and we should be ashamed of ourselves! I really never comment on here, but this one made such a good point.

“Outsider” didn’t say they wanted to come here during the Covid-19 pandemic… they said it made them not want to EVER. This is an issue since our county depends HIGHLY on our tourism. Can we please act like the civil adults I know we can be? Because honestly, if this one person (outsider) has this opinion… how many other outsiders are thinking the same thing? WE NEED THEIR BUSINESS! Whether you realize it or not, the economy of Brenham and Washington county would plummet without our wonderful visiting Outsiders.

      1. @Not an Outsider-I chose to move here at a time when Brenham really had no tourism money coming in. We had a busy downtown, people had jobs that paid the bills, we had a few restaurants, and it truly was a quiet Hill Country town. The first thing that happened were the festivals which gave us a little tourism, then Walmart which killed the mom and pops that lined the streets,. In an effort to revitalize a dying downtown, antique stores and boutique businesses started coming in and the final thing was the ‘selling’ of Brenham as the perfect tourist destination. So no, I don’t feel the tourist business is something that we as residents MUST have because I can’t name one business that depends solely on the tourist dollar except maybe the multiple hotels, motels, and bed and breakfasts that have come to be. The tourist dollar makes it nice but none of us would shrivel up without it. What we need more of is: permanent residents who care about our community and wants to make it the best place to live. What we NEED are people that take care of their community and are not afraid they will do more than the next one for it.

  3. We have 3 recovered cases of COVID 19 in Washington County. It took about 2 weeks for #1 & #3 for testing, getting the results and to recover, but only a week for #17, just wondering if #17 really had COVID 19 or possibly something that had similar symptoms? Were they tested and did the results come back positive? So testing, results and recovery can happen in 7 days!!! What a remarkable recovery #17!!!

  4. If you want to know what facilities have a case of COVID 19, you can call the Department of State Health Services and ask specifically about the nursing home you have a loved one in. The key is you just ask for a specific place!

  5. I keep seeing theses stupid bike riders everyday on mill creek rd. They are out of town people. No more flower lookers either. Stop them from coming in here at the county lines and tell them to stay at home . Simple as that they make it harder for locals to get what we need and should be at their homes anyway!

    1. I agree. We had to make a trip to Navasota Wednesday for a lawnmower part. Saw several Motor Cycle riders out. Silly people don’t pay any attention until it it too late!

    2. “Stupid Bike Riders”?
How very narrow-minded and judgmental can you be?

One – if you are talking about bicycles, the State has said that exercise is fine – as long as social distancing protocols are followed.
Two – If you are talking about motorcyclists, then how on Earth could you possibly know that is not their primary means of transportation – as is the case with many riders? Even so, riding through the countryside or whatever, on a motorcycle, does not pose any more of a threat than driving a car or exercising on a bicycle.

As long as these riders don’t stop and congregate in groups or ignore social distancing protocols, this is not a threat – and none of your, or anyone else’s business.

Here’s the excerpt from Governor Abbot’s Executive order:

This executive order does not prohibit people from accessing essential services or
engaging in essential daily activities, such as going to the grocery store or gas station,
providing or obtaining other essential services, visiting parks, hunting or fishing, or
engaging in physical activity like jogging or bicycling, so long as the necessary
precautions are maintained to reduce the transmission of COVID- 19 and to minimize inperson contact with people who are not in the same household.

Stay Safe – Stay Healthy – and BE NEIGHBORLY.

    3. What about us local bike riders? Does that make us stupid? Should they make laws to keep us from enjoying quiet country roads and exercising to keep our bodies strong and healthy?

How can you tell the difference between a local bike rider and an out of town bike rider?

  6. I really would like to see the Mayor step up and take a lead on this. People this is serious and we need to reduce interactions amongst each other to slow it down. A hard 2 weeks of complete isolation. Local law enforcement needs to be keeping outsiders from coming in, put them at Wal marts and H-E-B! Let’s flatten the curve here before it gets out of hand! We need daily press conference from leaders giving us direction and information, and one viable universal source to get our information should be established for the county!

  7. That is not good! Many workers work at different nursing homes daily, going back and forth….the numbers of infected are going to rise really fast, inside the nursing home (s) and outside (family members)…..EVERYONE NEEDS TO HUNKER DOWN

  8. 25 percent climb. If it continues in two weeks Washington County will have way over 200 cases. If you are from other counties like Brazos County or Montgomery County your county is exploding already. You need to stay in your own county. Counties need to self quarantine. It is not rocket science. It is simple common sense. If you or your employer is not smart enough, then the government will have to step in. Hopefully, the government is operating safer than this. If you don’t get it, just look at Louisiana, if you leave Louisiana you have to self quarantine. There is no difference. Boss’s should be held responsible and liable for their own decisions affecting other people’s lives. If they have higher threat employees mixing with less effected areas you are the problem and should be held liable.

    1. With cases rising ,its showing ALOT of ppl in brenham are NOT taking responsibility for their own actions..Theres a heck of alot more cases out there not showing symptoms yet..PLEASE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS,if you have to work, follow all guidelines!.ppl who are asymptomatic (carrier’s,and never show symptoms)(like Typhoid Mary) are out there,WEAR A MASK,stay your distance, wash hands, dont touch your face

  9. Confused as to why Houston news could name Conservatory Retirement /Nursing Home in the Woodlands as an outbreak center but Brenham’s JIC sites HIPAA laws for not revealing the home in our community. HIPAA protects the individual’s identity, not the location or area of the individual. Please clarify.

    1. I’m sure they will, but they have to contact all family members first. You cannot name the place WITHOUT notifying all envoled first

      1. They can name the facility. That has nothing to do with HIPPA. HIPPA protects the individual. Brenham and Washington County always do as they want. Never transparent about anything. Bunch of make up stories and rules as they go.

        1. I agree my friend!!!! As u go type of situation (‘make there on rules) with Washington county.

  10. Brenham lying to us again. They most certainly can tell the town which facility it is. That has nothing to do with Hipaa. I personally know which one it is because my grandma is at this one. Every night you watch the news they report nursing homes that have positive patients and they always give the name of the facility so I guess Brenham makes up their own rules again. SMH

    1. I’m glad you were contacted. My father in law is at one and we haven’t heard anything. It makes us very nervous….
