CHI ST. JOSEPH DELAYING MOVE OF BIRTHING SERVICES TO COLLEGE STATION

CHI St. Joseph Health has postponed the move of women’s and in-patient pediatric services out of Bryan.

In February, CHI St. Joseph Health CEO Theron Park announced plans to move labor and delivery, post-partum, in-patient pediatric services, well-baby nursery, and NICU from CHI St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan to the College Station Hospital by this summer.  Due to COVID-19 and associated complications, the move has been delayed.

Park said in Wednesday’s announcement that CHI wants to make sure this project is planned properly, so it is pausing this transition until it can fully focus on it and make sure it is the right decision.

When the move was initially announced in February, hospital officials cited space challenges at the Bryan hospital and a large increase in births as the main reasons for the move.  They said the move to College Station would ideally give patients a more comforting environment, convenient parking, and easier access to the women’s service units.
