COACH ALLEN TALKS END OF SPRING SPORTS SEASON

While many had held out hope that spring sports would continue in some form or fashion after they were suspended in March due to COVID-19, the events that transpired Friday shot down any chance of that happening.

Governor Greg Abbott announced Friday that all Texas schools would remain closed through the rest of the 2019-20 school year.  The UIL followed suit, cancelling all remaining activities for spring sports, including state championships.

Brenham ISD Athletic Director Eliot Allen is one of many that were disappointed with the anti-climactic end to the spring sports season.

 

Allen said the cancellation hits particularly hard because it leaves a feeling of discontent, with many wondering what could have been.

 

However, Allen said he was very pleased with what he saw from the few months of spring sports, and hopes that can carry forward into the summer and fall.

 

In the meantime, schools across the state will pay close attention to any further announcements from the UIL, as they continue to follow the direction of state authorities.
