FIFTH COVID-19 PATIENT DIES IN WASHINGTON CO.; 18 NEW CASES REPORTED OVER SATURDAY, SUNDAY

Washington County EMS officials reported 18 new cases of COVID-19 and a fifth death over the weekend.

The death was confirmed Sunday evening in a Brenham woman in her 90s.  No other information on her case was provided.

Officials confirmed 12 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and six on Sunday, bringing the county’s total to 68.  57 of those cases are active.  All cases are believed to have been transmitted through community spread.

Upon Saturday’s reporting of the 12 new cases, county officials stated 42 percent of the then-62 confirmed cases in the county were linked to one facility.

It is not known if Sunday’s confirmed cases—all involving Brenham women, one in her 40s, four in their 80s, and one in her 90s—are also connected to the facility.  The Texas Department of State Health Services is in contact and working with the facility.

Six of the 57 active cases are currently hospitalized.  Six people have recovered from the virus.
