TALKS OF NEW ENGLAND AS LANDING SPOT FOR CAM NEWTON CONTINUE

Cam Newton (2009)

Talk around the NFL is that former Blinn Buc and Carolina Panther Cam Newton could possibly be headed to the New England Patriots.

Prior to the draft, the idea of the former Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL MVP landing in New England seemed lukewarm at best.  But, many are now saying the fact that the team did not draft a quarterback and Newton seems to be running out of landing spots has re-invigorated the conversation.

Jarrett Stidham is still the odd-on favorite to succeed Tom Brady as the Patriots’ signal-caller.  The other quarterbacks competing to be Brady's successor will be Brian Hoyer and rookie free agents J'Mar Smith and Brian Lewerke.

In 2009, Newton led Blinn College to the the NJCAA National Championship.  Newton threw for 2,833 yards with 22 touchdowns and ran for 655 yards at Blinn.  After his one season in Brenham, he transferred to Auburn where he won a national title and won the Heisman Trophy.
