BRAZOS VALLEY FOOD BANK TO PROVIDE FREE MEALS WEDNESDAY AT WASHINGTON CO. FAIRGROUNDS

The Brazos Valley Food Bank will host a free drive-thru food giveaway tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

The food distribution will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or while supplies last.  Each vehicle will be offered a hot Chick-Fil-A box meal, one box of shelf-stable food, and an allotment of fresh items like produce, milk, and protein.

One Chick-Fil-A meal will be issued per household, with a two-per-car limit.  Those who attend cannot pick up food for others who are unable to attend.

No ID or paperwork is required to receive food, but recipients will be asked simple questions including the number of people in their household, their ages, their race, and if they have ever visited a food pantry before.  Recipients are asked to stay in their vehicles during the distribution.

Anyone planning to attend who has questions can call the Brazos Valley Food Bank’s Food Assistance Hotline at 936-978-0823 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

  1. Please don’t complain because if your working then your very fortunate to have a job so be thankful! The families that waited in line most likely lost their jobs so maybe ask for those that maybe got extra if they wouldn’t mind donating a little to your family!

So many times complaining doesn’t help so look to other options and I bet you’ll be blessed twice as anticipated! Thanks

I want to think everyone involved with the food bank to help our community today! Without them none of this would be possible so I thank all the helpers, volunteers and especially the ones who donated for W.C.

  2. What about for the families that had to work today and couldn’t make it to pick up the food for our children?? Will there be another one soon for those of us that didn’t get off work in time?

    1. Robertson County is hosting one tomorrow from 11-2 at their fairgrounds in Hearne and then Grimes County is having one Saturday from 11-2 at their fairgrounds in Navasota.

  3. While I appreciate their effort, I been sitting in line for 2 hours – perhaps halfway there. Probably burned a quarter tank of fuel. Very, very slow. Still I need it, so thanks!

    1. Please understand that folks started lining up well before the 11:00 start. I think KBTX said the first car in line arrived at 7:30! That shows how great the need is and the willingness of those folks. The line doesn’t flow until the start time either. Working through 300-400 vehicles takes its time logistically, from being off the road as a hazard to lining up once inside the fairgrounds to receiving the food. Glad you were taken care of and I’m sure the food bank appreciates your thanks! There are resources within Washington County for people to reach out to should their need for food arise such as Faith Mission, Bread Partners, St. Peter’s, Prairie Hill, and mobile pantries in Burton and Brenham as well as the Washington County Food Security Coalition and FOR THE CITY.
