CECIL COOPER ON BALLOT FOR 2021 TEXAS SPORTS HALL OF FAME
The Texas Sports Hall of Fame Selection Committee has released its Preliminary Ballot and Veterans Ballot for the Class of 2021 inductees.
Among this year’s candidates is a Brenham baseball great.
Former Brenham and Milwaukee Brewer star Cecil Cooper is among 12 candidates on the veterans’ ballot for 2021 induction. Voting by Hall of Fame members will take place over the next several months.
Cooper played three seasons at Pickard High School, winning two State Championships, before moving to Brenham High School for his senior season.
He began his Big League career with the Boston Red Sox before his trade to the Brewers. Cooper was a lifetime .298 hitter, two-time Gold Glove Winner, and five-time All-Star.
In 1983 he was honored with the Roberto Clemente Award, and in 2002 he was inducted into the Brewers Walk of Fame. In 2007 he was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame.
Cooper is joined on the veterans’ ballot by, among others: Bob Beamon, Jose Cruz, Charlie Waters and Robert Brazile.
Among the 19 on the primary ballot are: Leroy Burrell, Mark Cuban, Priest Holmes, Roy Oswalt, and Wes Welker.
