BRENHAM BANNER-PRESS REDUCING TO THREE PRINT EDITIONS EACH WEEK
The Brenham Banner-Press has announced a major shift in its publication schedule.
Starting next week with the Tuesday edition, the newspaper will only print physical editions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Daily content will still be posted on the paper’s website, www.brenhambanner.com.
Publisher Derek Hall said the change comes primarily as a result of a reduction in advertising revenue due to many local businesses closing because of COVID-19 and the economic hardship created by the pandemic. He said the decision was very difficult, but it was one that had to be made as there is “no guarantee of a complete or speedy economic recovery”.
The Brenham Banner-Press joins over 30 former daily newspapers in Texas that have had to reduce publication days, including papers in Baytown, Port Arthur, Nacogdoches, and Lufkin.
However, starting July 1st, the newspaper will begin publishing a new edition called the Banner Bulletin for subscribers with email access. The online-only edition, according to Hall, will publish on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, showcasing stories, photos, obituaries, and events from the previous day.
Hall said the price will not change for subscriptions or print editions.
