‘STROS LOOK TO INK SPRINGER TO LONG-TERM DEAL

Astros general manager James Click said reaching a contract extension with free agent-to-be George Springer is something the team is actively pursuing over the next couple of months.

Owner Jim Crane has made it clear he wants Springer to remain with the team long term. Crane said last week he plans for the Astros to be aggressive, whether it be maintaining their own players or in the free agent market.

Springer was the 2017 World Series MVP and one of the unquestioned leaders of the team. Earlier this year, Springer and the Astros settled on a $21 million deal to avoid arbitration for the 2020 season.
