ASTROS ROLL OVER ROYALS; RANGERS FALL TO ROCKIES IN PRE-SEASON ACTION

George Springer

The Houston Astros bombed five home runs en route to a 15-6 thumping of Kansas City, in the team’s final tune-up before the season opener Friday night.

George Springer, Aledmys Diaz, Nick Tanilu, Alexander DeGoti and Taylor Jones all went deep in the Astros’ exhibition win.

Brian Abreu, the third of six Astros pitchers picked up the win.

In what could be a harbinger of things to come this season, Springer, Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman were each hit by a pitch.

Later in the game, Altuve suffered a leg contusion on a play at the plate.  He is listed as day-to-day and could miss the team’s season opener.

The season kicks off Friday night at Minute Maid Park, when they host Seattle.  First pitch is set for 8:10 with Astro Launch beginning at 7:35 on AM 1280 KWHI and FM 101.7.

The Rangers opened up the brand new Glob Life Field in front of empty stands, as they fell to Colorado, 5-1.

Kyle Gibson took the loss, giving up all five runs in five innings of work—yielding three home runs off Rockies’ bats.

The Rangers scored their lone run in the seventh, when Leody Taveras singled in Ian Kiner-Falefa.

Texas will host the Rockies in another exhibition game tonight at 7:05.  The same two teams will open the regular season, Friday night at 7:05.
